Wu Shi-Wei’s flower paintings depict more than flowers.

To be more precise, Wu uses the subject matter of flowers to explore the inner landscape, the self, and sentient beings.

In the past, the flowers in ink paintings were added to add atmospheric touches and were a straightforward way of framing the scene.

However, Wu paved his own way.

Wu’s flowers are not noble but possess their own charm. His flowers do not display prideful detachment because, despite being a man of the world, the painter does not go with the flow.

The artist appropriates and gathers the authentic fearlessness of the plants in their lives. On the surface, the scene appears chaotic, but they entail their own patterns and exude a sense of tranquility that is not deliberately arranged, showcasing a sense of liveliness that is quiet but never silent.

In the eyes of Wu Shi-Wei, art is clarity of the mind; it is transparent and leads to infinity.
